Cleveland Clinic Stands Firm On Plans To Hold Fundraiser At Mar-a-Lago

The Cleveland Clinic says it won't move its annual fundraiser from Mar-a-Lago, despite pressure to do so from critics of President Trump.

An open letter posted online that has been signed by more than 1,400 medical professionals and others demands that the hospital company reconsider holding the event at Trump's Palm Beach estate in February, claiming it "supports a politician actively working to decrease access to healthcare and cut billions of dollars in research funding."

The letter goes on to state that hosting the event on Trump property is an "endorsement of the President's policies and statements."

A spokeswoman for the Cleveland Clinic says the fundraiser isn't political and the hospital has other ways to advocate for patients.  She said donors and hospital executives in Florida and Ohio reviewed the request to change the venue, but decided against it.

The Clinic went ahead with its fundraiser last February at Mar-a-Lago, despite similar efforts to get it moved.
