One state legislator from Palm Beach County is working on tightening restrictions on texting while driving.
Current state law makes the act a secondary offense, meaning drivers have to be pulled over for something else before being cited for texting behind the wheel.
State Representative Emily Slosberg is touring the state, asking county commissions and city leaders to sign resolutions that would support making it a primary offense. Seven counties have signed on, none of them local, but Slosberg has gotten the cities of Boca Raton and Delray Beach to sign on, among others to our south.
Boynton Beach commissioners are schedule to vote Tuesday on a city resolution in support of a change in the law. Martin County has plans to do the same next month.
