Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. 

  • Disney properties in Orlando have been greenlighted by Orange County for reopening. The Magic and Animal Kingdoms will be reopening on July 11th with EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios set for July 15th.
  • Orange County also approved reopening plans for Seaworld’s properties with Seaworld, Discovery Cove and Aquatica set to begin reopening as soon as June 10th.
  • Florida’s request to the federal government for extended SNAP benefits was approved. Starting June 1st families in Florida currently receiving SNAP benefits will see a $5.70 per child, per day increase in benefits for every weekday schools have been and remain closed.
  • FIU’s Dr. Stephen Leatherman – aka “Dr. Beach”, ranked Florida’s Grayton Beach State Park as the country’s top beach for 2020. Dunedin’s Caladesi Island State Park also made the list at number 6. The last Florida beach to top the list was Siesta Beach in Sarasota in 2017.
  • The Florida Department of Health revealed the extent to which basic medical care has been avoided during the pandemic. Standard child immunizations were down 15% year over year in March followed by a 40% drop in April. The Department of Health is asking parents to follow through on routine vaccines and medical care or we’ll run the risk of future outbreaks of ailments like measles.
