  • Governor DeSantis announced his intention to reopen schools next fall at full capacity. As part of the plan introduced by Education Commissioner Richard Corocoran, school districts will determine how their schools decide to reopen and additional money from the CARES Act will assist in the offsetting of certain expenses. The Florida Department of Education received $475 million through the CARES Act
  • The Republican National Convention is officially on its way to Jacksonville. Party chair Ronna McDaniel confirmed the move Thursday night saying We are thrilled to hold Donald Trump‘s acceptance of the Republican nomination in the great city of Jacksonville! Not only is Florida his home state, it is crucial to victory. We look forward to bringing this great celebration and economic boon to the Sunshine State.
  • Thursday was the worst day for new diagnosed cases of COVID-19 in Florida with nearly 1,700 new cases. We’ve had four consecutive days of increases and this week has been the worst for new cases since the pandemic began. Over half of all diagnosed cases are coming from South Florida. Broward and Palm Beach counties currently have seven hot spots each while Miami-Dade has 20.
  • Today is reopening day for all Seminole Casino properties in Broward. Temperature checks and masks are required. 
  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission put out a notice to humanely kill Bufo toads if you see them. With the recent rains,the population has begun to explode throughout South Florida. The non-native toad is poisonous and endangers animals, including pets, which may encounter them. As a rule, to determine whether a toad is a Bufo or not, FWC says any toad bigger than four inches is non-native. Bufo’s can grow to 9.5 inches.
