Top Three Takeaways – April 29th, 2021

  1. It will be you. That is if President Biden has it his way. Notice how at first, we were hearing his proposed tax increases would only impact those earning over $1 million per year. Then it was only the top 1% (those earning at least $581,000). Now based on President Biden’s tax and spending plans it’s “only” those earning $400,000 per year. Let’s be real. If President Biden’s spending plans were to become reality – it will be you too. No matter how much money you make. How do I know? Because there’s not enough “rich” people and not enough money earned by them to pay for what’s being proposed by President Biden. Not even close. The top 1% accounted for 40% of all income taxes paid last year. The top 5% paid 60% of all federal income taxes. The total federal deficit still totaled $3.1 trillion. The total earnings of the top 1% last year? $755 billion. Forget raising taxes. If you confiscated 100% of all earnings of the top 1%, or top 5% or even 20% of earners you still couldn’t cover the federal deficit. And that’s before adding trillions upon trillions in spending via Biden’s plans. In other words, if his plans passed as proposed it will be you seeing your taxes go higher, much higher, no matter who you are or what you earn.
  2. Let’s be honest. Broward School Superintendent Robert Runcie isn’t on his way out because of deference to the families of Stoneman Douglas victims. He’s on his way out because he was indicted by a grand jury along with the top attorney for the school district. Otherwise, he would have left three years ago. Had he been honest with the grand jury he wouldn’t be leaving and if he were being honest now, he wouldn’t be suggesting it’s suddenly about victims' families. Speaking of honesty, it’s in short supply in Broward’s school district as these two bombshell indictments are on back of the Chief Information Officer having been busted in a massive kickback scheme with a School District technology contact. A school district which also happened to become a victim of a ransomware attack in the mist of all these issues. And what does the Vice-Chair of the School Board have to say? At a loss for words. This is a very sad day for Broward County Public Schools children. What has happened here has nothing to do with children. It has nothing to do with education. Nothing. Laurie Rich Levinson is right about that. This is about integrity, or the lack thereof. And since there’s been a dearth of it at the Broward School District let me be direct with you. You’re a failure. Those who’ve repeatedly supported the leadership team in the School District are failures. I’m not saying that to be mean. I’m saying it because it’s a fact. When your top attorney, superintendent and information officer are all arrested in a matter of months you’ve failed.
  3. Is this really the best idea? Genetically modified mosquitoes are being rolled out in the Keys this week. How many times have we manipulated nature in South Florida? How many times has it worked out? We’ll have to hope this is the exception.
