In the Village of Wellington, there are three races and all of them are open...one for mayor and two for the Village Council.

There are eleven candidates in all and one of the folks running for Seat 1 on the Council is John "Jay" Webber. He's a medical malpractice defense lawyer who represents doctors, nurses and hospitals against lawsuits.

Webber tells us that he's been active in the community, including being a current member of the Village's Education Committee, and now felt like a good time to take the next step.

"I thought it was important that we continue the great work that this Council has done for Wellington. They've done a great job over the past eight years, making Wellington a better community."

The development plans for the Equestrian Preserve is a hot topic in Wellington, with more than 90 acres being removed for new homes and other non-equestrian purposes.

Webber says he was skeptical at first, but that through the process, it's become a better proposal by Wellington Lifestyle Partners. It's a very contentious issue in the village.

"And the next Village Council is going to be entrusted with enforcing the agreements that were made as part of the development deal."

There are three other candidates for Seat 1, which is being vacated by Michael Drahos due to term limits.

We'll post their interviews as they respond to our attempts to speak with them.

All three races in Wellington are open to all registered voters residing within the village limits.
