She's been a CEO of a radio station and she's only in the fifth grade. Madison Dassa is our Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast "Rising Star of the Week".
The outgoing Equestrian Trails Elementary School student from Wellington tells us her tasks while taking the JA course.
"I passed out papers for people to do ads. I made the music choices and had to sign a lot of checks."
Her mother is a professor at FAU. Dr. Laurie Dassa tells us what she believes her daughter learned most from her experience.
"Leadership skills. Learning how to speak to people appropriately to ask them to do a job for her without being mean or demanding."
One of the things Madison's mom is most proud of:
"She actually got elected by her classmates to be the CEO, so that was kind of an honor that her friends and peers felt that she was capable of running the radio station."
We're putting the call out to parents and teachers to nominate a student to be a Junior Achievement "Rising Star". Each week, we'll feature a student on-air and online.
This is open to all kids, from Kindergarten to 12th grade, who have taken or are currently taking a JA class
You can nominate through JA's website, Click Here, or call 561-242-9468.
We also want to put the call out to business professionals in the area who have as few as five to ten hours total to volunteer in the classrooms.
Newsradio 1290 WJNO and Wild 95.5 appreciate your help on this project with JA of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast and hopefully it gives you a good feeling that you're helping a young up and coming business owner or entrepreneur.
