Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control is investigating a Boca Raton pet store after a puppy was found dead inside the business.
Officials received reports of neglected animals at Poochie Couture last week after the dogs were heard barking inside the empty store as mail piled up outside. Several sick dogs, along with the dead one were seized from inside the store.
The owners surrendered the majority of their remaining animals to the agency and closed their doors for financial reasons.
Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League in West Palm Beach has taken in more than 30 of the puppies and are giving them medical evaluations.
The puppies are believed to have come from puppy mills and will eventually be adopted out.
Animal Care and Control continues its investigation into possible criminal charges.
