The VA's New Tool To Help Veterans Make Better Healthcare Decisions

The Department of Veterans Affairs has developed a website to give patients access to important information so they can make the best decisions regarding their healthcare.

The Access To Care site just launched on Wednesday and I've been given a demonstration.

Veterans can look up the average wait times for both returning patients and new patients at every VA facility in the nation.

For the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, it's 3 days for returning and eleven days for new.

You can also look this information up based on a few specialties, for example a veteran looking to get mental health care at the hospital as a new patient would have to wait on average nine days.

Among the other things veterans can review is the timeliness of appointments for care needed right away.

This tool has several other features and some that won't go online until the May first update.  The Dept. of Veterans Affairs will also be tweaking some things based on input from users.

I'll give you more information on the site in the coming days both on The Morning Rush and here at the Local News Wire.
