Marijuana In Car That Killed Delray Beach Officer, Alcohol May Have Been Involved

Police say a driver who crashed into the scooter that a Delray Beach Police Officer was riding when she was killed had marijuana in the car.

Authorities in Key West have released the investigative report into last weekend's crash that claimed the life of SWAT Officer Christine Braswell.  She was off-duty and on a motor scooter with friend and co-worker, Delray Beach Police Officer Bernenda Marc when a car driven by 31-year old Lacy Morris t-boned them. Marc is recovering from her injuries.

According to the report, Morris had a faint odor of alcohol, along with bloodshot eyes after the accident. Officers found what's described as a "fresh but barely-smoke(d) marijuana cigarette" on the floor of the vehicle.

Morris refused a breathalyzer at the scene, but a warrant eventually led to a test and results are pending.

Morris told police that she ws turning into a convenience store when she saw Braswell and Marc on the scooter, coming at her at a high rate of speed, but that she thought they would have plenty of time to stop.

Officer Braswell will be laid to rest on Sunday, April 23 at Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach.
