PBC Helpline Cites Netflix Series For Uptick In Calls

The folks that manage Palm Beach County's 211 helpline blame an increase in calls on a Netflix series.

"13 Reasons Why" revolves around a high school student who committed suicide and left behind 13 tapes, each for a different person she blames for her decision.

The director of the helpline says people have watched the show and a number of them have reached out to say they found it to be triggering, while others claim to be worried about a friend or a child.

When the show premiered in March, mental health professionals around the country voiced concerns that it may encourage suicides.
