Opioid Epidemic Is Now A Public Health Emergency In Florida

Governor Rick Scott yesterday declared the opioid epidemic a Public Health Emergency across Florida.

That allows the state to immediately draw more than $27 million in federal grant money from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help fight the crisis.

Scott says he directed officials from the Department of Children and Famlies, the Department of Health and the FDLE to meet with communities in Palm Beach and three other counties to identify additional strategies to fight the rising cases of opioid overdoses.
