Protecting The Palm Beaches: Tequesta Police Chief Elg On The Safety Of His Village

Palm Beach County has five communities in the Top 50 rankings of the safest municipalities in Florida, according to the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

The highest ranked local municipality is the Village of Tequesta, which is at 6.  That's something Police Chief Chris Elg is very proud of.

"We're certainly proud of the men and women of this department who do their job.  They do a very difficult job and often times a very thankless job.  But, we do know that there's people out there that appreciate what they do and it makes a difference such as the community that we serve, the Village of Tequesta."

Elg's department consists of 20 sworn officers and he says the community is happy with the service they provide, which is why he tells me Tequesta won't be joining the growing list of local cities having their law enforcement taken over by the Sheriff's Office.

"The council's committed.  The residents certainly show their apprecation to us on a regular basis of having their own local police department here and that when they call for the police, they're speaking to someone locally."

The other Palm Beach County municipalities on the Top 50:

15) North Palm Beach

20) Palm Beach
