Memorial Day Service At West Palm Beach VA Medical Center

Ahead of Memorial Day, the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach is holding a service to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in military service to a grateful nation.

The service is being held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Main Chapel, near the West Entrance of the medical center on the first floor.

VA Medical Center Spokesperson Kenita Gordon says people often get Memorial Day confused with Veterans Day.

"A lot of people, especially on social media, will say 'Happy Memorial Day to you', as a veteran.  I'm an Army Veteran and I look at them like 'okay', and I know they mean well.  But they're two different holidays and Veteran's Day is more to honor all veterans and their service.  But Memorial Day is really to honor the memory of those that passed on."

She says a lot of people get it confused because of the commercialization of Memorial Day.

Surviving family members, friends and citizens, young and old, are welcome to attend Friday's service
