Lake Okeechobee Now Above 17 Feet

Massive Algae Blooms Continue To Plague Florida's Atlantic Coast

Daily inspections are now being conducted on Lake Okeechobee, since the level this week has reached 17 feet.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers puts the lake's level at 17.19 feet.  That's well over 3 feet higher than it was before Hurricane Irma.

This despite the fact that nearly 5 billion gallons of water is being discharged per day to the west and another 1 billion gallons per day to the east.

There are concerns about areas along the dike on the south end of Lake Okeechobee, where construction continues.
