Another Palm Beach County law enforcement agency is getting body cams for its officers.
The Jupiter Town Council on Tuesday night voted to purchase the small cameras for the town's police department.
The cams will automatically switch on, as will those on the uniforms of every officer within 30 feet, once a cop pulls their Taser from their holster. Pulling a gun from a holster will not trigger the body cams.
The cost to fit all officers on the Jupiter police force with body cameras is about $880,000 over five years, with some of that money coming from federal funds, forfeited in money laundering and drug cases.
Police Chief Frank Kitzerow says all officers should be fitted with the cams by the end of the year. They will each have one cam while on duty and take a second one home with them.
