Florida's job growth in December was a Christmas miracle!

Florida's job growth in December was a Christmas miracle! Or something like that...

Bottom Line: Florida's ADP Report was nothing short of awesome for December. Not only did we add the most jobs of the year in December. We created the most private sector jobs I've ever seen in a single month in Florida. There's only one other time over the past ten years we've added as many as 30,000 private sector jobs in a month and we blew right passed it to more than 35,000 to end 2017. According to the report we added 35,100 jobs in December & here were some highlights:

  • Professional and Business Services 9,900

  • Natural Resources/Mining and Construction 6,800

  • Trade, Transportation and Utilities 3,000

  • Manufacturing 1,500

There's good news everywhere here and notably we're continuing to see Florida added meaningful manufacturing jobs which is also part of a longer term national trend. But just how good was the month in context? Nationally 250,000 private sector jobs were added. In Florida, we accounted for more than 14% of all jobs added and we have just 6.3% of the population. That means that Florida outperformed the national job growth by 222% last month. That also bodes well for the momentum we're carrying into 2018 as well. With national economic momentum and the impact of tax reform getting ready to kick in... There's a lot to feel good about close to home right now.
