Latest: Brightline's Deadly Debut

Brightline, the new rail service currently running from West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale, but eventually expected to go from Miami to Orlando, is still in operation, despite attempts by members of Congress to suspend its run while an investigation is conducted.

On Friday night, a third person was struck by a Brightline train on the FEC tracks during the first week of the service's operation, this time in Fort Lauderdale.  And for a third time, police say the person was trying to beat the train.

The pedestrian on Friday suffered non-life threatening injuries, but the other two people struck were killed and U.S Representative Brian Mast last week called for an investigation and a temporary end to service.  Democrat Senator Bill Nelson also called for an investigation by the Federal Department of Transportation.

The trains travel at speeds of 79 miles per hour and Brightline, along with local officials on Friday put out a call for drivers and pedestrians to obey bells, lights and gates.
