Hysterical Headlines (Funny or Absurd) for February 14th

Hysterical Headlines (Funny or Absurd) for February 14th

Bottom Line: These are the daily doses of nonsense in the media and my hot takes on them...

Hot Take: Actually, no it's not. It's federally illegal and once again that pesky US Constitution presents a challenge to the false narratives being advanced... I'd imagine that federal drug trafficking on school grounds would generally be frowned upon. What's more is that we're having this conversation in the first place. Having gone through grade school right about the time zero tolerance foolishness was making its way into the public-school system I recall an all-time stupid experience related to controlled substances on campus.

I watched as a student with asthma began to have an event and gasp for air. When he tried his inhaler, it was empty. He went to the ground gasping in what appeared to be an emergency situation. What did the rest of us around think to do? One person went to locate a school nurse and the rest of us rushed around asking if anyone had an inhaler. One student did, and she rushed to the boy on ground with it.  He used it and began to compose himself right about the time a school official arrived. Relieved we all thanked the girl for potentially helping to save the boy's life but not the administrator. Because the prescription wasn't the boy's she was suspended by the school per the zero-tolerance policy. That was 25ish years ago. Last I knew zero-tolerance policies were still a thing. So, if administrating a legal prescription to a boy in need to potentially save his life is a violation - I'd imagine that having a schedule one federal drug on campus would be frowned upon. That is unless because it's marijuana it's all different now?

Hot Take: You mean with TV reporting like CNN and MSNBC we're not there? Not with the New York Times or the Washington Post? If you believed the reporting of those sources a year ago you're probably beyond confused about how Donald Trump is still President let alone having a higher approval rating than a year ago. I would think convincing your consumers of impeachable offenses when no actual charges of impropriety have emerged even a year later would qualify as fake news or perhaps the catchier sounding information apocalypse. I think it's reasonable to think that since the average college graduate is now financially illiterate we've long since engaged in the information apocalypse but what the heck.

The premise behind this story is actually a valid concern. Technology has reached the point in which you can digitally manipulate audio and video of real people to make them say things they never said. At that point people would only believe what they'd want to believe. What's more is that the lack of credibility of major, traditionally media outlets, that have sold out integrity in the name of their political agendas won't have an affect on dispelling faked creations. That is a very real concern and it's unclear how this particular story ends.

Hot Take: We've now reached the point where the annual girls not wearing much (or anything) periodical now must come with political statements attached. I guess it makes sense. If we can't watch sports for entertainment without political statements on the field by players, and even dumber sportscasters covering it, I suppose the ship has sailed as far as looking at attractive women for entertainment purposes as well.

Until tomorrow...
