LISTEN: Delray Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade Turns 50!

Saturday marks the 50th anniversary of the Delray Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade.  organizer John Fischer tells us that it all started back in 1968 when a local Irish pub owner walked down Atlantic Avenue with a pig on a leash.

"We're going to have his descendants, his family is going to be up front as the parade Grand Marshalls and we're going to have a couple of pigs and that's how the parade is going to start off."

After them, you'll see cops, firefighters and veterans from the Vietnam War and World War 2.  First responders from around the world will be in the parade and any from our area are welcome to join.

"We invite them to come down and have a parade banner, representing their agency, their municipality to introduce them to the crowd."

Kool 105.5's Mo, Sally and Curtis will be taking part in the parade, which kicks off at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Intracoastal bridge and continues to NW/SW 5th Ave.

There is also a festival that begins Friday night at Old School Square and continues on Saturday.
