Rabbits Take Over Boynton Beach Park

A number of rabbits had to be rounded up at a Boynton Beach park over the weekend.

Volunteers with East Coast Rabbit Rescue say the rabbits scattered around Pioneer Canal Park were likely once pets that were abandoned by their owners.

While the rescue thinks the number may be up to 100, Animal Care and Control doesn't know an exact number of rabbits, but says there has been an issue with stray rabbits in the area for years.

At least two dozen have been caught over the past week or so.  The rescue believes that many of the domesticated abandoned rabbits may be unable to fend for themselves in the wild, and become targets for larger predators, including foxes.
