Protecting The Palm Beaches-Jupiter's Police Chief on The Body Cam Program

Several Palm Beach County law enforcement agencies are now using body cams daily, and Jupiter Police are one of the latest to uniform all officers with the technology.

We spoke with Police Chief Frank Kitzerow about this program that has now been underway for nearly 4 months.

"Obviously we're seeing the same benefits that most other law enforcement agencies around the country are seeing in terms of enhanced officer safety, transparency, accountability...it's been a really impressive program."

Each of the 114 officers have two cameras...one to bring home and one to keep at the station.  And Chief Kitzerow says the cams will automatically start recording under certain circumstances.

"If a taser is deployed, it will activate all of the cameras within a 30 foot radius."

How has the reception been?

"Most of the feedback that I've been getting from both sides, the officers and the public, has been very positive.  It's obviously something that communities come to expect in today's day and age."

Hear from Chief Kitzerow on this subject at 15 minutes into the above audio.
