Michael Is Now A Hurricane, Heading For Florida's Panhandle

The National Hurricane Center, in its 11 a.m. advisory on Monday, upgraded Michael to a hurricane, putting out maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour.

That makes it a weak Category 1 storm, but it's expected to strengthen to a major hurricane Category 3 or higher by the time it makes landfall in the Panhandle on Wednesday.

Michael is about 50 miles south of the western tip of Cuba and moving north at 7 miles per hour.
