The actual State of the Union in 2019

Bottom Line: As I’m inclined to remind you there are two sides to stories and one side to facts. As we’re in the wake of the President’s State of the Union address and the spin is in, it’s a good time to reset with just the facts. These are them.

Economic growth: Best since 2005

Personal income growth: Best since 1987

Unemployment rate for the following groups are record lows or recently attained them: Asians, blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, women

Quality of life: Best on record for Millennial adults whoearn approximately 20% more than their parents at the same age adjusted for inflation

Divorce rate: 42-year low

If you knew nothing else about what’s going on right now that’s impressive. The bigger question is why we wouldn’t want to do everything we could to support the policies that’d brought us to this point? Again, the most pervasive form of bias in news media is omission. But as I’m always quick to remind people, you lie to someone about what they don’t know but you can’t lie to them about the job they do or don’t have, the money they’re making or if they’re happilymarried as the case may be. I’m optimistic that despite the omission and deception by news media at large, most people do or will get it, especially against the backdrop of the previous administration and economy.
