It's sentencing day for former Palm Beach Gardens Police Officer Nouman Raja, convicted last month for the murder of Corey Jones along the exit ramp of I-95 at PGA Boulevard.

Raja became the first officer in Florida to be convicted of an on-duty shooting in 30 years.

He was working, but in plain-clothes when he approached Jones, whose vehicle was broken down in the middle of the night back in October 2015.

Prosecutors say that while Jones pulled out a gun, he never pulled the trigger and was running away when Raja fired several shots. Jurors agreed.

The judge, earlier this month, denied a request for a new trial.

Raja faces 25 years to life in prison.

His sentencing hearing begins at 1:30 p.m.
