  • According to state records 2,600 cases of human trafficking involving minors were reported in Florida in 2018. 1,500 cases were opened, and 400 victims identified and recovered. The most common recovered victims were white females between the ages of 14-17. The counties with the highest human trafficking rates were Broward, Miami-Dade, Duval and Orange – in that order.
  • The first autonomous vehicles being used by a government in Florida debuted at Lake Nona. The Autonom Shuttle is fully electric and reaches top speeds of 15 miles per hour. Orlando officials have indicated that if successful they could be used in downtown Orlando - which was just named the most dangerous for pedestrians walking in the country.
  • Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott proposed legislation that’d allow Canadian snowbirds over the age of 50 to legally remain in Florida for up to eight months per year – two months longer than the current law. 3.5 million Canadians have visited Florida over the past year
  • A court date for oral arguments in the legal challenge to Florida’s new law requiring financial restitution to occur prior to the restoration of felons voting rights has been set for November 6th.
