  • The Florida Public Service Commission produced a 39-page report that will be taken up in hearing Thursday with Florida’s utility companies. The report is a road map for utility companies to use to build their plans to underground all powerlines in Florida under the state’s new law. FPL has multiple test sites in use throughout South Florida which will be used in their planning with the Florida Public Service Commission.
  • Seven Florida school districts are appealing their assertion that Florida’s law mandating shared resources for charter schools should be overturned. The case is now set to be heard by the Florida Supreme Court. Lower courts have ruled in favor of the state law that forced school districts to provide minimum funding for numerous projects including school security, that many school districts including Broward and Palm Beach County had attempted to withhold.
  • South Florida based Global Empowerment Mission has sent 300,000 pounds of supplies to the Bahamas for relief efforts and intends to continue to send a half million pounds of supplies to the Bahamas per week.
  • In Sumpter County, a pet pit bull attacked a coral snake that was approaching two children at the family's home saving the children. The dog was bitten four times by the snake and died of its injuries.
