Florida's recap – Highlights from around the state – November 22nd

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.

  • Senator Marco Rubio announced the support of four additional US Senators to support Florida’s Sunshine Protection Act which would allow us to stay in Daylight Saving Time...with a wrinkle. Rubio is now proposing the whole country remain in daylight saving time. It appears making this a national issue rather than Florida specific one is providing a path for additional traction.
  • Jeff Bezos’s foundation donated $5.25 million to The Homeless Services Network of Central Florida. This comes in the same week Amazon announced a new distribution center in Auburndale (outside of Orlando).
  • Ducks Unlimited in conjunction with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Foundation announced $22 million for Florida’s MK Ranch in the Apalachicola River.
  • Virgin provided an update on the Brightline to Orlando project yesterday. The expansion to Orlando is running on, or even ahead of schedule to be competed in 2022.
