Washington's Football Team Ditches Its Redskins Moniker

It's official. After 87 years, the Washington Redskins will be no more.

The team this morning announced on Twitter that their name and logo will be changing, in the wake of corporate and public pressure to ditch the nickname, amid claims that it has racist connotations.

Washington's NFL team did not announce a new name, but team officials say owner Dan Snyder and Head Coach Ron Rivera are working together to develop a new name and design.

The now-former Redskins have played at FedEx Field in Maryland for several years.
