2 Republicans Battle To Face Hastings Or His Democrat Challenger In CD 20

Congressional District 20 is in our Election Spotlight on this primary Election Day. Democrat U.S. Representative Alcee Hastings is in the middle of his 14th term, and facing a primary challenger in his bid for re-election.

On the Republican side, two candidates are vying for the right to face either Hastings or Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick in November.

Vic Degrammont owns an entertainment business and works in real estate. He says he's the right choice to beat a nearly 30 year representative, NOT his GOP Primary opponent.

"He's basically the stereotypical Republican that's been losing in District 20 for 27 years. I'm a fresh face. I'm something new. I can identify with the people."

Degrammont is a first-generation American, born in New York to a mother from the French Caribbean Islands and a father from Haiti.

"District 20 is a multi-cultural district. This district is very Caribbean-based. Me and my wife, we're both literally from the Caribbean. So we know all the customs. We know the traditions. We know the value system."

Candidate Greg Musselwhite was born in Ohio and works as a welding inspector at a variety of facilities including chemical plants and nuclear power plants.

"My background in the industrial construction and trade industries, I can bring those contacts to promote trade schools, vocational training in schools, to bring those jobs down here."

He says a lot of big decisions are made in Congress.

"As far as my opponent...I'm not real sure about decision-making on big issues when you sell real estate."

Both candidates include term limits among their platforms and consider themselves major supporters of Pres. Trump.
