If You're A Palm Beach County Property Owner, Check Your Mailbox Right Now

The 2020 Proposed Notices of Property Taxes and Assessments have been mailed out to local homeowners and other property owners.

Palm Beach County Property Appraiser Dorothy Jacks says the more than 664 thousand of the notices were sent out last week.

"One important note is that all of our taxes are based on January 1st."

That's right...pre-pandemic.

"So we have not taken into account any adjustments or changes to values based on COVID."

Jacks says any adjustments that were due to market conditions caused by the crisis will be reflected in the 2021 assessments.

"If you think the market value is higher than what your property was worth on January 1st, you should give us a call first and we'll talk to you about how we arrived at your value."

Then, if you want to file a petition to the Value Adjustment Board...

"This is the time to do that though, there's a deadline to file a petition of September 14th."
