  • Eta made landfall north of Tampa as a tropical storm with top winds of 50 mph. It’s expected to rapidly cross the state today exiting north-east Florida later today.
  • Governor DeSantis is proposing new legislation that’d allow property and business owners to use force to defend against “violent and disorderly assemblies” impacting property and businesses. The proposal would explicitly make the blocking of traffic, businesses and property a third-degree felony. Additionally, the proposal would withhold state funds from local governments which cut police funding.
  • On back of Monday’s promising vaccine news from Pfizer, the Florida Department of Health is finalizing their plans for rolling out a vaccine statewide. The plan includes three phases for distribution. The first phase will include vaccinations for the state’s estimated 500,000 health care professionals and related frontline workers. Phase two will include those in elder care facilities and with “at-risk” medical conditions. This includes approximately 3 million Floridians. Phase three will be opened for all other Floridians.
  • As part of the NFL’s 100 Yards of Hope environmental campaign, veterans planted coral off Miami’s coast for Veteran’s Day. The coral was planted to resemble a football field. The restoration of the Florida Reef Tract has been a priority for state officials and the NFL agreed to support the effort last year.
