Updated – Is Florida getting its fair share of vaccines?

Bottom Line: The short answer as of two weeks ago was no. For whatever reason Florida, which accounts for about 6.7% of the US population, had only received about 5.4% of the vaccines being shipped by the Biden administration. Politics or not, it led to me only believing we’d receive promised vaccines when we’d actually received them. Last week proved to be the best week yet for Florida’s vaccination program and on back of what appeared to be real follow-through on the previous promises I wanted to see where we stand with what’s already been delivered. Here’s the scorecard as of Monday:

  • 116,378,615 vaccines delivered nationally
  • 7,771,315 delivered to Florida

Some quick math reveals... Florida’s now received 6.7% of the vaccines – exactly equal to the percentage of our population. I’m not sure what the holdup with vaccines were originally and I’m not sure what changed but I’m happy to report Florida has finally received its fair share of the vaccination supply. Additionally, 21.5% of Florida’s adults have now received at least a first dose of a vaccine with 12% having completed the schedule. We’re starting to reach meaningful penetration just as the vaccine supply is starting to takeoff. It’s a great combination which provides reason for optimism – especially with the end of the traditional flu season only a month away. To be continued...
