Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.

  • Florida’s weekly trend for daily cases continued to rise on Monday as the Florida Department of Health reported 3,480 new cases from Easter Sunday – a total higher than the prior Sunday. The average daily total for new cases, at 5,418 is the highest since March 5th.
  • Nearly 6.4 million Floridians have now been vaccinated based on Monday’s Vaccine Report for the FDOH. This includes nearly 3.7 million who’ve completed the vaccine series.
  • While Governor DeSantis has signed an executive order banning vaccine passports in Florida, Norwegian Cruise Lines submitted a request to the CDC asking for the lifting of the CDC’s “conditional sail order”, provided that Norwegian mandates proof of vaccination for all passengers. The CDC hasn’t yet committed on the request. 
  • Good news from the Piney Point reservoir emergency. State officials have ruled out a potential 2nd breach and the emergency effort to pump contaminated wastewater out of the reservoir has been successful. Officials believe they’ll have pumped enough water out to stabilize the reservoir sometime tomorrow.
