LISTEN: New Jupiter Police Chief Talks Crime Stats

The new police chief in Jupiter checks in for Protecting the Palm Beaches, brought to you by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. David England took the helm after former Chief Dan Kerr's retirement in February.

He shares positive news.

"We're down 14% in our traffic crashes. We have 19 less than we had through the same time period (Feb '20 - Feb '21) last year. And for crimes, we're actually down 20 percent. We're down 14 incidents from the same time again last year."

Chief England says his team works hard to get those numbers down.

"We're pleased. You know, we put a lot of effort into going out into the community and not only solving crimes, but preventing crimes."

Going forward, he says, crime stats will be tracked differently...but not just in Jupiter.

"The federal government has been on a couple year program of changing their methodologies because we just have so many different crimes nowadays than we did 100 years ago, much like credit card fraud, forgery and embezzlement and what not."
