  • Governor DeSantis is calling on the Biden administration to assist Florida in providing internet access to Cuba. In a note to President Biden, DeSantis said I urge you to act immediately to provide all necessary authorizations, indemnifications, and funding to American businesses with the capability to provide Internet access for the people of Cuba. Steps must be taken immediately to assist in providing internet access to the people of Cuba standing up against communist oppression and demanding a voice after decades of suffering under a cruel dictatorship. There’s been no response by the Biden administration to Governor DeSantis’s request and no official communication of any sort since a statement released Monday morning by President Biden. 
  • Today child tax credits authorized under the American Rescue Plan begin to go out to Floridians. The payouts which can total up to $300 per child per month through year end, don’t require additional action for eligible families as they’re based on last year’s tax returns. Approximately 3 million Florida families are eligible. 
  • Florida’s new property insurance law, which took effect July 1st and is aimed at easing Florida’s 1st in the nation property insurance litigation, was put on hold. A lawsuit filed against it by Gale Force Roofing & Restoration, was granted an injunction by U.S. District Judge Mark Walker. The argument is a provision which prevents the ability for contractors to solicit for roof replacements when they may not be needed. 
  • Florida’s Board of Education officially adopted changes to the 2021-2022 school year’s curriculum. This includes the state’s new civics initiative, mandatory Holocaust education and finalizing of rules such as the change effectively banning the teaching of Critical Race Theory in Florida.
