Florida COVID-19 Vaccination Rates By Age – August 24th
Bottom Line: As COVID-19 cases have surged this summer, so have vaccination rates in Florida. After waning interest in COVID-19 vaccinations in June and early July, we’ve seen strong demand across all eligible demographics over the past month. This included another 1.1% of Florida’s total population who’d not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine receiving one last week. Florida’s overall vaccination rate, with at least a first dose, now stands at 62.3% of our total population. Florida’s vaccination rate is now higher than the national average as we rank 20th overall. The surge in vaccinations has been led by a remarkably high level of vaccinations among Florida’s seniors. Here’s an updated look at vaccination rates by age:
- Under 18: 16.6% (10.9% fully vaccinated)
- 18-64: 67.6% (55% fully vaccinated)
- Over 65: 99.9% (87% fully vaccinated)
Florida has the largest senior population in the county and it’s remarkable to see a 99.9% vaccination rate. Notably, over 70% of adults are vaccinated with at least a first dose in Florida - the threshold previously been targeted for herd immunity. Going forward, questions remain about efficacy against variants and the length of the efficacy of vaccines. Of course, attention is already turning towards boosters for those who’ve previously been vaccinated. There will always be multiple variables, still, there’s no question that the rise of the variants and the peak pandemic conditions in Florida led to many who were on the fence with regard to getting a COVID-19 vaccination choosing to do so.
