Border Truth & DeSantis’ Signs – Top 3 Takeaways – May 16th, 2023

Border Truth & DeSantis’ Signs – Top 3 Takeaways – May 16th, 2023

  1. Leave it to the Biden Administration to take credit for a crisis. It’s long been a tactic of the left to credit a crisis, and then attempt to take credit for addressing the crisis. Prominent recent examples include inflation, energy prices, the failed Afghanistan withdrawal and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It’s what they do. After all, as Rules for Radicals states – never let a good crisis go to waste. So, creating, addressing and attempting to profit off of them is simply part of the Marxist culture of the left. For that reason, it’s perhaps not the least bit surprising that the most recent crisis created by the Biden Administration that they’re remarkably attempting to take credit for addressing is the border. On Sunday, while President Biden was riding his bike out of one of his classified document storage facilities (his garage), he was asked by reporters about the southern border, post the expiration of Title 42. His comment: Much better than you all expected. And right on cue there was DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, two years and over 4.5 million illegal border crossers into telling us that we don’t have an open border, who said this on CNN: The numbers we have experienced in the past two days are markedly down over what they were prior to the end of Title 42. In fact, he touted a decline of 50% over pre-Title 42 expiration. And predictably and somewhat breathlessly the lemmings in news reporting obliged passing along messages of optimism from our southern border. And in fact, Mayorkas sensing an opportunity to further cash in the crisis they’d created said: We have been planning for months and months, over a year and a half. We have surged resources, asylum officers, Border Patrol agents, processing coordinators to do the data entry work so our Border Patrol agents can be out in the field. We've expanded our holding capacity in Border Patrol stations. It's extraordinary what we've done over the past 18 months or so. Well, I will agree with him that it’s been extraordinary what he and the Administration have done over the past 18 plus months. They’ve managed to...
  2. Allow illegal immigrants numbering more than the population of 24 states into our country. That’s extraordinary for sure. If it was your sole intent to import the maximum number of illegal immigrants into this country, I don’t know that it could be done better. That said, back to the absurdity of the “progress” being touted. Here’s the fact of the matter. Yes, there is a decline in southern border encounters – if you’re counting them against the three record days exceeding 10,000 last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. No, there’s not a decline if you compare the totals to what we were pacing just prior to last week’s record surge and there’s not a decline if you compared to where we were a year ago. A year ago, in May, there was a 15% increase in illegal border crossings averaging a record 5,735 per day. What was the number immediately after Title 42 expired? 6,200. An 8% increase over last year’s record totals which came after the record daily surge earlier last week. And that’s what’s being reported breathlessly as a big decrease in illegal immigrants crossing our border due to the extraordinary planning and efforts of the Biden Administration. That they even attempt these narratives, let alone successfully get their allies in news media to parrot them, shows just how little they think of you and just how easy they know it is to manipulate most news outlets. Leave it to the Biden Administration to take credit for successfully addressing a still record setting border crisis.
  3. Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs of DeSantis running for President. Fresh off his not-so-random weekend in Iowa, Governor DeSantis’ campaign staffers on Monday began to settle into a new office in downtown Tallahassee that either indicates they were bored and wanted to hang out together in some new digs, or that Governor DeSantis will officially announce his presidential bid within the next two weeks. How do we know it’ll be within the next two weeks? Under federal election law, any campaign expense of $5,000 or more must be disclosed to the Federal Election Commission within 15 days. It’s safe to say opening a new downtown Tallahassee office replete with campaign staffers will top that. So, the official use of funds and the official purpose for the new office and the campaign staff will soon be disclosed. Which means that our governor’s intent to run for President will soon officially be disclosed. And this also means Florida will soon have a new Elections law as it contains the resign-to-run provision. And even this was timed with precision in mind. The original Elections bill stated that it was to take effect July 1st. The amended version with the resign-to-run provision was revised with this effective date: Except as otherwise expressly provided in this act and except for this section, which shall take effect upon this act becoming a law, this act shall take effect July 1, 2023. And on page 37 of the 97-page bill it reads: The amendments made to Florida Statutes, by this act are intended to clarify existing law. Any person seeking the office of President or Vice President of the United States is not subject to the requirements of Florida Statutes, which govern candidate qualifying, specifically those which require the submission of certain 1045 documents, full and public disclosures of financial interests, petition signatures, or the payment of filing fees. This section shall take effect upon this act becoming a law. It’s the one section of the bill which specifies that it takes effect immediately. Even that is a sign that DeSantis wanted the flexibility to be able to run prior to July 1st. Though it still wasn’t one of the eight bills delivered from the Legislature to Governor DeSantis yesterday. So today still won’t be that day...but soon.
