Trump’s Guilty Until Proven Innocent, Hegseth Too & Bye, Bye DEI in the DoD

Trump’s Guilty Until Proven Innocent, Hegseth Too & The End of DEI in the DoD – Top 3 Takeaways – January 15th, 2025

  1. Why have trials? At this point it really isn’t worth spending much time delving, or should I say devolving, into the report produced by a clearly over-zealous prosecutor desirous of preventing Donald Trump from becoming President of the United States. The report dropped around midnight on Wednesday runs 174 pages in total. It does include a lot of background information, including official but internal communications between Trump’s legal team and Smith’s overtime. Also, as one would expect of any motivated prosecutor, he made his case in the report, which of course he couldn’t legally make in court, in a persuasive and compelling way. But if you wanted to know just how off-base former Special Prosecutor Jack Smith was in his muti-year failed effort to attempt to prosecute President-elect Donald Trump... All you need to know was summed up in his report by two statements. In the first that struck me... Jack Smith said...”He inspired his supporters to commit acts of physical violence”. Say what? In his January 6th, 2021, speech preceding the capitol riot, Donald Trump literally said: I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard. And that was literally interpreted by Jack Smith as inspiration to commit acts of physical violence. Trump’s characterization of Jack Smith as being “deranged” suddenly struck me as being on point when I read Jack Smith’s prolific spin. His assertion in that instance at a minimum was by definition deranged (which means disturbed or disordered in function, structure, or condition – Smith's logic on Jan. 6th was all of those things). The second instance that stuck me was this: Indeed, but for Mr. Trump's election and imminent return to the presidency, the office assessed that the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial. That was the statement he unnecessarily issued to attempt to permanently create a narrative that all of the GSS media latched onto. Headline after headline emerged around the world saying that “Trump would have been convicted”. Oh, ok – so that’s the way the American justice system now works? If a prosecutor says a suspect should be convicted, they’re guilty? Or does that only apply to Donald Trump and other Republicans? Now, of course any prosecutor who brings charges against a suspect for anything believes they’ll win their case. Have you ever heard of a prosecutor arriving in court and presenting their case by saying that they aren’t really sure if the suspect is guilty but what the heck? So, we don’t need to be treated as though we’re stupid. But what Jack Smith and his allies in the GSS media have done is foundationally un-American and reprehensible. Maybe if his cases went to trial, he would have won them. Maybe Donald Trump would have been acquitted. But prosecutorial punk Jack Smith retains no right to declare without due process that the President of the United States is guilty, which is effectively what Smith, and a willing news media has done. So yeah, apparently in Jack Smith’s America we don’t need trials to determine innocence or guilt. Thankfully, however, this is still the United States of America where Jack Smith is only as relevant as the failing legacy media which was all too happy to parrot his claims and assign Trump’s guilt. Speaking of our system of justice and presumed innocence being ignored for those in Trump’s orbit...
  2. Pete Hegseth’s hearing. Before questioning even began NBC News had this Breaking News Banner on their news sites: “Trump Defense pick Hegseth under fire for ‘extremely alarming’ allegations”. Well, that’s fun. It’s nice to know that Hegseth was already under fire, which is an interesting use of terminology for a Defense Secretary nominee btw, while he was giving his opening statement but it’s good to know that NBC News apparently had already coordinated with the Democrats on the Senate committee to know what they had planned. And what they had planned was a coordinated smear campaign against Hegseth using unproven allegations from his past against him. Now I don’t know if any of the allegations of drunken behavior, abusive behavior or sexual misconduct are true. But then again neither do the Senate Democrats, who repeated the allegations as though they were fact, time and again. Hegseth’s not been found guilty of any of anything that’s been alleged, he’s repeatedly denied the allegations, and yet he was treated by Democrats as though he was guilty of any and all allegations commonly advanced by anonymous sources against him. Nevertheless, there was nothing that occurred in yesterday’s hearing that likely didn’t impact any senator’s vote. However, on substance, there was this from...
  3. Hegseth’s opening statement: <<If confirmed, I’m going to work with President Trump—and this committee—to: 1. Restore the Warrior Ethos to the Pentagon and throughout our fighting force; in doing so, we will reestablish trust in our military—and address the recruiting, retention and readiness crisis in our ranks. The strength of our military is our unity—our shared purpose—not our differences. 2. Rebuild our Military, always matching threats to capabilities; this includes reviving our defense industrial base, reforming the acquisition process, modernizing our nuclear triad, ensuring the Pentagon can pass an audit, and rapidly fielding emerging technologies. 3. Re-establish Deterrence. First and foremost, we will defend our homeland—our orders and our skies. Second, we will work with our partners and allies to deter aggression in the Indo-Pacific from the communist Chinese. Finally, we will responsibly end wars to ensure we can prioritize our resources—and reorient to larger threats. We can no longer count on “reputational deterrence”—we need real deterrence. The Defense Department under Donald Trump will achieve Peace Through Strength. And in pursuing these America First national security goals, we will remain patriotically a-political and stridently Constitutional. Unlike the current administration, politics should play no part in military matters. We are not Republicans or Democrats—we are American warriors. Our standards will be high, and they will be equal (not equitable, that is a very different word). We need to make sure every warrior is fully qualified on their assigned weapon system, every pilot is fully qualified and current on the aircraft they are flying, and every general or flag officer is selected for leadership based purely on performance, readiness, and merit. Leaders—at all levels—will be held accountable. And warfighting and lethality—and the readiness of the troops and their families—will be our only focus.>> As it should be. And that, the end of DEI in the DOD, is what really has the left upset. The rest is mostly posturing.
