  • Florida’s special state legislative session begins today in Tallahassee with a focus on legislation aimed at combating illegal immigration in addition to aiding the Trump administration with its deportation program. Other items to be considered are reforms to Florida’s condo association laws passed in the wake of the collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside that have created unaffordable conditions for many communities, aid for agricultural industry in hurricane impacted areas and replenishing funds for the My Safe Florida Home to allow for additional access for grants by eligible residents.  
  • Florida’s rate of flu spread is said to be ‘high’ according to CDC’s weekly data, that’s the same as the previous week. About half of Florida’s counties are experiencing increasing transmission rates, with close to half that are seeing a decrease in transmission including Palm Beach County and all Treasure Coast counties. RSV cases continue to decline across almost the entire state. 
  • An illegal gambling ring operating in four counties has been taken down by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. Four arcades were found to have been operating illegal slot machines for approximately six years: VIP Sweepstakes in West Palm Beach, Treasure Hunters Arcade in Fort Pierce, Pharaoh’s Treasure Arcade in Vero Beach and the Arcadia Arcade in Zephyrhills. Six arrests were made in conjunction with the illegal gambling and money laundering operations. 
  • Mostly sunny skies and warmer today with highs in the low 70’s a little cooler than usual for this date. Similar but slightly warmer weather is expected for the rest of the week.  
  • Gas prices rose over the weekend and are three cents per gallon higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.21 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.35 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.23 and in Indian River County the average is $3.21 per gallon.
