  • Florida’s rate of flu spread has been on the rise over the previous week. According to the CDC’s weekly data, the rate of flu cases has risen from ‘high’ to ‘very high’. Cases have risen in 55 of Florida 67 counties – including Indian River County. However, cases were flat in Broward over the past week and have still been on the decline in Palm Beach and Martin. RSV cases continue to decline across most of the state however Indian River County was among nine to experience an increase in RSV cases last week.  
  • 300 jobs and a new manufacturing plant are coming to Florida’s Space Coast. Lockheed Martin has won a $383 million Navy contract for the development of the Trident II Strategic Weapons System D5 missile. To account for the project, which has a delivery date of 2027, Lockheed has announced the building of a $140 million manufacturing facility and will hire 300 people for jobs averaging $89,000 annually.  
  • Owners of newly built homes will soon have a much lower cost property insurance option. Embark MGA and Security First Insurance have announced a new program that will allow owners of newly constructed homes to save an average of 20%-30% on their insurance compared to the price of standard policies. The program applies to owners of “newly built homes from major construction companies”.  
  • Partly cloudy skies and warm today with highs near 80 – warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected for the rest of the week.  
  • Gas prices fell through the weekend and are 15 cents per gallon lower than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.06 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.19 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.01 and in Indian River County the average is $3.02 per gallon.
