- Governor DeSantis announced Tuesday that he will campaign on behalf of Amendment 3, the proposed elimination of non-school homesteaded property taxes, in advance of November’s elections. After the legislature passed Amendment 3 in a special session, DeSantis said he would support it but wouldn’t campaign for it as his proposal – which called for the total elimination of homesteaded property taxes wasn’t passed. DeSantis noted the “importance” of the Amendment passing as the reason for his decision.
- Indiantown’s Village Council voted 4-1 against a proposed data center pause on Tuesday – standing in contrast to recent votes by the Palm Beach and Martin County commissions. The vote also comes following the Village’s recent rejection of the proposed Silver Fox data center proposal. During the meeting the Council voted to oust Village Manager Taryn Kryzda and the Village’s attorney. The Village appointed recently ousted Stuart City Manager Michael Giardino as interim village manager.
- As Jupiter is set to launch its own fire department on October 1st, the Palm Beach County Commission voted to buy a property at 6519 Donald Ross Road that will be the home of a new fire station for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue in the area as they’ll continue to serve nearby unincorporated communities.
- Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek is the latest sheriff to express concerns about the state’s ordered removal of Flock and other AI-camera-based systems on state roads. While expressing the need to place limits on their use Budensiek said: For the past 10 years, the Martin County Sheriff's Office has successfully, appropriately, and legally used license plate readers to protect the citizens of Martin County against the traveling criminals. Palm Beach County Ric Bradshaw and Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers have been vocal in support of the cameras in recent days as well.
- It'll be partly cloudy with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms and highs in the upper 80’s – warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected throughout the week. The National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Depression Edouard as it makes its way further inland in Texas today where it will continue to weaken as a rain event. The Hurricane Center’s map is clear from new development for the next seven days. Persistent Saharan dust from the coast of Africa extends over much of the southern and mid-Atlantic with dust extending over the Caribbean, towards the Gulf of America and South Florida. The dust will limit the development potential of these systems.
- The price of gas rose by another four cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded fuel statewide is currently $3.98 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.11 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.00, it’s $3.98 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.98 per gallon.
