Bottom Line: Without any additional context if I were to ask you if Americans were having more sex 30 years ago or today how'd you answer? I'd suspect that almost everyone would think that in today's sexualized society would assume that we're having more today...

That's not the case. According to a study in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, sexual activity was rather static from the late 1980's (when the study began) through 2002. Since that time sexual activity has been on the decline. As late as 2002 the average adult had sex 64 times a year. It's been in a steady decline since that time. Most recently the average adult has sex 53 times per year. The reason...

The most common predictor of sexual activity is still marriage. Not hook up apps or whatever. With fewer couples marrying and typical family formations taking place later in life as compared to the prior generations - there's less sexual activity taking place. It's refreshing to see that family values show up with prominence - even if society often under emphasizes them these days.
