Bottom Line: So what class are you based on your annual household income? According to the latest research from the Pew Research Center here are the tiers (rounded):
Upper: $173k
Middle: $73k
Lower: $24k
Clearly most will be between tiers so you can see what's upper-middle class and lower-middle for example. What's interesting to note is that adjusted for inflation, the tiers are are lower than in 1999 - demonstrating that inflation adjusted incomes are lower today as compared to 99'.
