Tracking Trump - Direction of the Country 3-24-17:

Bottom Line: This Friday feature is designed for political junkies who missed my Friday political series from the election cycle. For years, despite generally favorable approval ratings for President Obama, we've collectively been unhappy with the overall direction of our country. It's fair to say that President Trump is much more than just a new President. He intends to lead the movement that led to election forward. How will the country respond?

In this entry I'll be tracking the overall view of the direction of the country led by President Trump.

Here's where we stood on Inauguration Day:

Right Direction: 30%

Wrong Track: 59.1%

Net Negative: -29.1%

Last week's ratings:

Right Direction: 38.8%

Wrong Track: 52.7%

Net Negative: -13.9%

And today:

Right Direction: 38.8%

Wrong Track: 52.3%

Net Negative: -13.5%

Change: +15.6% since Inauguration Day & +.4% vs last week

Despite the President's approval taking another hit this week, our view of the direction of the country is continuing to improve upon it's already best numbers in well over four years. The economic information continues to show an exceedingly more positive picture of economic activity in the early days of the Trump administration highlighted by the top job creation in 11 years. Real-estate's best start to a year in ten years. Business optimism is at 10-12 year highs based on the size of the company and with stocks still near record highs...There are substantive reasons to feel better about the direction of the country.

That being said we're starting to get down to brass tax policy stuff that matters to most Americans, like healthcare reform, the SCOTUS hearings next week and the President's just released budget blueprint. The outcome of these policies will doubtless have an impact on our view of the direction of the country over the longer run.

Until next week...
