Food for your work related thoughts:

Bottom Line: Much of what we come across in our day to day workplace life can be improved if we're able to more constructively frame what we encounter at work. US News & World Report had five keys to improving your day to day work-life:

  • Focus on what you can control
  • Don't complain with others about coworkers
  • Try to find humor in absurdity
  • Realize that your boss has the same goals as you
  • Have positive outlets outside of work

I found these to be especially effectual. One of the best pieces of advice I've ever received was to "control what I can control". I've also seen first hand how coworker complaining never leads to anything positive. And it's a good point that, with rare exceptions, our bosses are vested in the same goals as us. It's easy to forget that when you have disagreements. Also instructive is the need to have positives in your personal life. Research has previously demonstrated that people who work longer hours but with positive outlets in their personal life are actually less stressed out by work than those who work fewer hours but lack positives in their personal lives.
