Bottom Line: The President has been busy over the past few days starting with his actions on Friday which included:

  • Meeting with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson 
  • Meeting with Budget Director Mick Mulvaney
  • President Trump went to the Walter Reed medical center to personally award a Purple Heart to a severely wounded solider
  • Announced a rally next Saturday in Pennsylvania (during the time scheduled for the White House correspondent's dinner)
  • Signed the following executive order and memos:

IDENTIFYING AND REDUCING TAX REGULATORY BURDENS: The Federal tax system should be simple, fair, efficient, and pro-growth.  The purposes of tax regulations should be to bring clarity to the already complex Internal Revenue Code 

This interim report shall be completed no later than 60 days from the date of this order. 

MEMORANDUM FOR THE SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY: 

SUBJECT: Financial Stability Oversight Council 

This orders a review of the Dodd Frank financial regulation reform to reviewed with recommendations to be made to the President within 180 days to overhaul the law

SUBJECT: Orderly Liquidation Authority

This orders a review of the bankruptcy liquidation process for financial companies with reforms to be recommended to the President within 180 days. This opens the door to potential reforms and the handling of "too big to fail" type of situations in the future. 

  • Met with a freed Egyptian aid worker, Aya Hijaz, who'd been held prisoner for three years
  • Spoke with the Prime Minister of Japan
  • Spoke with the President of China
