Bottom Line: If your kids aren't the best students that's potentially just fine. In fact they could be well on their way to being self-made successes. This according to the latest research from high net worth CPA Tom Corely's research. Corely researched the GPA's of self-made millionaires and found the following...

Percentage of self-made individuals based on GPA performance for their highest level of education:

  • 41%: B
  • 29%: C
  • 21%: A

So there you have it. The valedictorian is statistically less likely to be a self-made individual compared to one of the C students in the graduating class. Now clearly it doesn't "pay" to be just an average student. Instead it demonstrates that traditional education isn't the primary catalyst for the success of most highly successful individuals. On that note were these nuggets:

60% of self made millionaires learned their primary skills from mentors. The most common mentors cited - their parents. Additionally - 90% say that take action to educate themselves daily. This is certainty something that resonates with me and it's important to note that good parenting is probably more important than good grades for most kids & and if they're into learning on their own - that's a great sign - regardless of their GPA.
