Tracking Trump - Direction of the Country for July 14th:
Bottom Line: This Friday feature is designed for political junkies. For years, despite generally favorable approval ratings for President Obama, we'd collectively been unhappy with the overall direction of our country. In the early months of the Trump Presidency we're seeing a bit of a shift with a less popular President but a bit more optimistic country generally.
In this entry I'll be tracking the overall view of the direction of the country led by President Trump.
Here's where we stood on Inauguration Day:
- Right Direction: 30%
- Wrong Track: 59.1%
- Net Negative: -29.1%
Last week's ratings:
- Right Direction: 31%
- Wrong Track: 56.5%
- Net Negative: -25.5%
- Right Direction: 33%
- Wrong Track: 57%
- Net Negative: -24%
Change: +5.1% since Inauguration Day & +1.5% from a week ago.
This is the second consecutive week that we've seen a bounce in our view of the direction of the country and this week we also saw a bit of improvement with President Trump's approval rating as well. In the absence of major policy reform progress and the regular dose of media efforts to undermine the administration - the catalyst is likely economic. The jobs report provided decent news last Friday and stocks continued to hit new highs into this week. I'm still a believer that it's the economy stupid, which is all the more reason as to why the feckless Congressional leadership should get a clue on healthcare and tax reform.
