Are you wired to be a great leader (or even a good manager)?

Are you wired to be a great leader (or even a good manager)? Surprisingly few fit the profile

Bottom Line: We frequently have new research about what makes a good boss, or how to be a better one. We're all familiar with the saying "right people in the right places". Perhaps the better question is whether it's even possible to find enough of the right people to put in the right places (especially in management).

Gallup has studied leadership since 2000. Overtime they've identified characteristics of good leaders/managers. What they've found is that only about 10% of people have those traits. That's it. So if you feel as though most of the folks you've dealt with weren't really good managers, it's probably not just your perception. Gallup has also discovered that only 18% of managers are those with the ideal makeup to be a leader. So with fewer than 1 in 5 bosses having the potential to be great leaders - it's not surprising that we seem to have a dearth of good leadership in multiple facets of life (political to the workplace). That being said, clearly going the extra mile to ID and place great leaders can certainly create a tremendous competitive advantage for your business.
